We need to leave unnecessary political discussions out of class

But I hate braindead, political conversation even more.

Everyone is insufferable because nobody ever shuts up about their views, even in situations where politics are not an issue. Case in point: my literature classes.

If we are learning about Frankenstein, why bring up god complexes in contemporary societal leaders and Donald Trump?

I just want to learn about a book I’ve already read, not listen to the same contrived, unimaginative complaints about American politics (which, by the way, are pretty consistently reprinted here in the Argus.)

I just want one thing that is not touched by this vitriolic, brain-dead shouting match, but that seems impossible.

I’ve gotten close to simply walking out of class when I have to deal with this because it is so prevalent and, worse, ineloquently said.

And to clarify: I also don’t like Trump. He’s an egotistical bully who gains power from (metaphorically) stepping on the throats of the weak. He annoys and angers me to no conceivable end. Full disclosure, I’m really hoping he decides to drive past a book depository in Dallas in an open convertible.

Similarly infuriating, though, are the loud, uninspired voices decrying his behavior in the name of rageful, liberal “altruism” and a desperate need for attention.

Constantly whining about capitalism or abortion rights or about how you think America  is becoming a  dystopia in an environment where the situation doesn’t call for it does not make you “quirky” or a modern day Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

It makes you loud, obnoxious and seemingly socially ignorant, all while discrediting the causes you are trying to support

Political engagement is important if one hopes to be a good, active member of our society . But please, for the love of God, read the room and leave it in the political sector.
