The Titans failed to keep their win streak alive in a 59-14 loss to the undefeated Washington University Bears. IWU is now 3-2 on the season with a 2-2 record in the CCIW. WashU sits atop the CCIW standings with North Central College. Both teams are undefeated.
The Bears dominated offensively and defensively in the first half, scoring six touchdowns and holding IWU scoreless.
IWU continued to have trouble finding consistency at the helm of their offense. Sophomore quarterback Ryan Saxe was benched in the second half. Though Saxe didn’t play a bad first half, completing 11 of his 15 passes for 104 yards, the Titans turned to fellow sophomore Jay Lemenager in hopes of sparking some life into the offense.
Lemenager provided a moment of hope for the Titans. In the third quarter, Lemenager threw two touchdowns to cut WashU’s lead to 28.
Entering the fourth quarter, the Bears picked up the pace again and scored two touchdowns and a field goal while the Titans failed to find offensive success.
Sophomore wideout Myles Kee found the end zone yet again in the game. Kee caught six passes and racked up 110 yards and a score.
Senior receiver Charlie Hamilton also added 73 yards and another touchdown to his impressive final season as a Titan.
Sophomore running back Seth Albin struggled to get anything going on the ground. Albin gained 30 yards on 12 carries in the matchup with the Bears.
The Titans’ biggest defensive struggle on Saturday came against the run. WashU earned 305 yards on the ground compared to IWU’s 23.
The Bears had two rushers who tallied more than 100 yards, an impressive feat. The team averaged 6.9 yards per carry in the game.
The Titans look to bounce back from their loss in another CCIW North Park on Saturday, October 15 at home.
