Don’t listen to the haters and go watch “The Electric State”

When opinions about films can sway viewers before they even press play, it can be extremely challenging sometimes to make up our own minds about what we feel as the viewer.

Despite numerous negative reviews and harsh critiques online, I decided to watch the Russo brother’s latest project, “The Electric State” with an open mind, driven by a curiosity about its reputation. To my surprise, the film captured my interest in a way others may have overlooked. I don’t understand why others hate this movie, however, it doesn’t really matter what others think; they aren’t the ones writing about it. I am.

Released March 14, “The Electric State” is set in a retro-futuristic world where Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown), a young girl undertakes a journey across a dystopian landscape overflowing with remnants of a decaying society left behind after a war. Venturing through forlorn towns and deserted highways, she is accompanied by two robots and another human (Chris Pratt). Together, they face challenges at every turn and are pushed to their physical and emotional limits. The film beautifully juxtaposes the nostalgia of a lost era with poignant themes of seclusion and strength in the face of collapse.

and while some regard the film with praise for its unique visual style and storytelling, others complain that the pacing and execution were poor and a waste of money. In my opinion, “The Electric State” is a reflection of the vast differences in film appreciation. It expands upon the current state of the world and the disconnect that we are facing in today’s society.

Ultimately, the film is a reminder that every film has a diverse audience, and occasionally the best discoveries happen when we peek past the noise of popular opinion.

For those curious about “The Electric State,” it’s worth a watch—it’s a chance to form your own opinion. Either join the chorus of critics or stand apart in admiration of this mesmerizing cinematic journey.
