Illinois Wesleyan’s men’s soccer team took their third consecutive victory this season after defeating the Rockford University Regents at home at Neis Field on Friday, Sep. 13, 2024.
The Green and White asserted control early in the match, keeping possession of the ball for most of the opening ten minutes until sophomore Faheem Mujahid found the back of the net with a header off a corner kick by senior Mush Bakirdan.
A majority of the offensive and defensive work for the Titans came from their midfielders, who kept the ball from nearing their goal, keeping the Regents to only two shots in the first half. 24 minutes in, sophomore Ryder Coleman scored Illinois Wesleyan’s second goal on assists from senior Devyn Kennedy and sophomore Matthew Perchik.
One minute later, Kennedy teamed up with sophomore Will Eiss to assist Coleman on another goal, extending the Titan’s lead to 3-0, where the score would stand for the rest of the game.
The Titans outperformed the Regents in every stat, hammering 33 shots on goal to Rockford’s 7. Illinois Wesleyan also dominated from the corner, with 14 kicks to 1. In the goal for all 90 minutes was junior Sam Kedzior, who kept a clean slate and had four saves on the day, the seventh shutout of his career.
The win over Rockford University extends Illinois Wesleyan’s record to 3-0-1, their best season start since their 2012 season. The Titans hit the road to face the Lake Forest Foresters at Mohr Field at 4 p.m. on Sept. 25, 2024 and Wabash at Fischer Field at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 28.
