IWU launched new app to help campus communication

A new website and app for MyIWU, the university’s main student platform, launched this week. The app will make it easier for the IWU community to promote events, find and share resources and create more effective connections on campus.

Students can now download the app in Apple and Android stores by just looking up “MyIWU.” Some students may already have the “Illinois Wesleyan” app, but this new app is a replacement platform. The “Illinois Wesleyan” app was discontinued by the vendor, and students have been encouraged to delete it.

MyIWU will also look different in the traditional browser format.

Unlike the old app, MyIWU will allow users to find and join campus events and groups, as well as have access to Banner Self-Service, Moodle, Google Suite and other student systems. The app will also allow students to search people, systems, groups and resources.

RSOs are already using the app for promotion. Once logged onto the app, there is a section to search for specific IWU RSOs. With just one click on “Join Group,” the app will keep students updated on events, meetings and help with email clutter.

“This portal is intended to streamline campus communications and engagement opportunities,” said Director of Communications Ann Aubry, Dean of Students/Campus Life Kevin Carey and Director of the Office of Student Involvement Tyler Manning in a school-wide email.

The app will continue to develop more features, and adopt more information about student organizations and campus departments. This project was spearheaded by the Office of Communications, Student Affairs and Information Technology Services.

“I think it will be a positive thing if it becomes university-wide,” sophomore MJ Soria said. “I don’t know if it’s a necessary change but there’s definitely a lot more features than the previous app, and I do think it’s better”

A Zoom meeting demonstration will take place on Friday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m. for the IWU community to learn more about the app. The session will also be recorded for those unable to make it, and uploaded on the new MyIWU platform.
