Titans win two, lose one at Stevens Point
The Illinois Wesleyan Women’s Volleyball team finished the weekend 2-1 at the WIAC-CCIW Crossover Tournament in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
IWU’s first game was against UW-La Crosse. The Green and White took a 3-0 set victory against the Eagles. The Titans outscored their opponents 75-55 across the three sets.
Boasting a 0.295 hitting percentage, Wesleyan commanded the match from start to finish. Freshman outside hitter Taylor French led the Titans with nine kills and 11 digs.
French was followed closely by junior and fellow outside hitter Lily Summers as well as senior right side Dana Kiszkowski who each had seven kills.
The Titans’ second game put them up against number 15 ranked UW-Stevens Point. IWU fell just short against the Pointers in a 3-1 set loss.
Wesleyan won the first set and dropped the second with a crushing 26-24 loss. The Titans went on to lose the next two sets by wider margins of 11 and 12 points.
Taylor French boasted another commanding performance with 13 kills and 19 digs. The Green and White were also helped by a great performance from junior middle hitter Ellie Eager, who tallied nine kills.
IWU’s third and final match of the tournament came in the form of a 3-2 set nail-biter against UW-Stout.
After winning the first two sets, Wesleyan let the next two slip through their fingers, losing both 26-24. The Titans managed to put together a 15-13 win in the final set to win the match.
Taylor French and Dana Kiszkowski impressed once again with 18 and 15 kills respectively. French made her defensive presence felt yet again with 27 digs for the Titans.
Junior libero Faith Washko led the team in digs with 30, continuing her outstanding defensive year for IWU.
IWU routs Wheaton in return to CCIW play
The Titans slaughtered the Thunder at home on Tuesday, October 25. Wesleyan outscored Wheaton 75-49 in a 3-0 set blowout.
Taylor French led the team in digs once again with ten. French’s impressive 0.429 hitting percentage left the Thunder silenced.
Senior middle hitter Evy Makris contributed eight kills to the Titans’ total, while Lily Summers did the same.
Sophomore setter Abby Erdman also had a great game, earning 26 of IWU’s 42 assists. Erdman’s consistent play has been instrumental in the Titans’ success this season.
The Titans look to stay hot in the Illinois Wesleyan Classic III on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29.
IWU will face off against Millikin, St. Norbert and number nine ranked Wittenberg to finish off the regular season.
