The IWU Writing Center is holding a halloween-themed short story contest to help students, faculty and staff show off their creativity and enjoy the spooky season.
Appropriately titled “Trick or Tweet,” the contest asks writers to complete a scary story in 280 characters or less— the limit of characters allowed in a tweet on Twitter.
“Opening it up to all of campus gives us a chance to see a variety of different style.
We’re really hoping to see some staff entries on top of student entries,” tutor Amy Gourley said.
Stories submitted should be scary, but not triggering or inappropriate.
Each applicant is encouraged to submit more than one story, but is limited to three.
All entries must be emailed to the center’s director, Anna Scanlon, by midnight on Oct. 26.
“This is a really cool opportunity to see what everyone on campus has to share,” tutor Isabel Sperry said.
Winners are going to be announced the week of Halloween.
Prizes will be awarded first, second and third place stories.
The winning stories will also be shared on the center’s website and social media.
“We’re all excited to get to see what people come up with.
The character limit will hopefully make the stories very interesting,” Sperry said.
